| AfriCap Microfinance Investment Company ("AfriCap") is a landmark concept for microfinance investments in Africa. AfriCap was originally established in 2001 as a private equity fund based in Mauritius with a mandate to invest in young microfinance institutions in Africa. AfriCap later transformed to become a microfinance investment company with continued focus on young African microfinance institutions. Supported by institutional investors (mostly international development finance institutions), AfriCap invests with a triple bottom line objective focusing on, social, environmental and financial returns. This is achieved by targeting and investing in institutions committed to serving low-income communities without access to conventional banking services. Our portfolio is currently made up of 13 investments across 11 countries in Africa, through a combination of equity and quasi-equity instruments. As an engaged investor, we provide our investee companies with corporate governance support, management support and technical assistance. AfriCap is fully invested and is now focusing on building its portfolio companies, working closely with the management team to identify and convert opportunities for value creation.
