| AfriCap is a $42 million microfinance investment company established in Mauritius and managed out of Johannesburg, South Africa. AfriCap boasts the backing of strong institutional shareholders, mainly international development finance institutions. The company aims to achieve a triple bottom line result i.e. generating a profit with respect for people and the planet. Since it started operations in 2001, AfriCap has produced 4 exits and 1 merger . The company began with the objective of being a demonstration model for private finance in the microfinance sector and has been successful in achieving this aim whilst having a positive social impact. Following its recapitalisation in 2007, AfriCap expanded its portfolio and is now focussed on the development of its portfolio companies to create value for the shareholders.
